Anterior Cruciate Ligament Ganglion Cyst and Mucoid Degeneration: A Review

Mucoid degeneration and ganglion cyst are two distinct non-traumatic lesions of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that most commonly occur discretely but occasionally coexist. They are relatively uncommon, and their exact aetiopathogenesis is still not clear. ACL ganglion cyst occurs more frequently among relatively younger patients compared to mucoid degeneration. They could be asymptomatic...

Its occurrence inside a joint is rare, and its diagnosis is usually incidental during magnetic resonance imaging or arthroscopy. It may be painful or asymptomatic. Some patients may have a trauma history. Ganglia may mimic intra-articular lesions like tears of the anterior cruciate ligament or meniscus. Magnetic res...

Bony Erosion with Mucoid Degeneration of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament

The first reported case of mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament (MDACL) was provided by Kumar et al in 1999.1 The pathogenesis is still unclear, but this condition is thought to be secondary to ACL degeneration. A 2004 study reported theprevalence ofMDACL as 0.043%,2 but a 2008 study found a prevalence of 5.3%.3 Although MDACL is not as rare as previously thought, it is not sti...
